FWJ STEAM Academy Model

In grade 9, students take STEAM specific PAA, Social, Science, and English classes. These courses include integrated projects that connect all three subjects, allowing students to apply concepts across disciplines. All other classes, including Math, Health, and Phys Ed, are not STEAM specific and are taken with other FWJ students.

Grade 10 STEAM students take STEAM specific PAA classes in each semester alongside ELA 10 in one semester and Science 10 in the other.  Other required classes to graduate, including Math, Social, Financial Literacy, and Wellness, will see STEAM students in classrooms alongside FWJ students.

In grade 11 students can choose one of two pathways: Robotics or Science. Each of these pathways is paired with a Design Studies class where students specialize in an area of interest and hone their STEAM specific skills introduced in previous grades. This is also the grade where STEAM electives are offered. Currently, we offer a STEAM Computer Science class and a STEAM Physical Science class.

Grade 12 students continue the same pathway chosen in grade 11 and begin focusing on their post-secondary goals. Students involved in the STEAM program will be able to access the required classes for grade 12 graduation, as well as for post-secondary programs.
