Counselling and Guidance Services
F.W. Johnson's Student Services Centre helps students with their educational plans by helping them with challenges and setting goals towards their future.
Students are encouraged to make an appointment with a counsellor for their educational, vocational and personal information needs. Counsellors help students solve academic problems and can assist to improve work and study habits. Appointments can be arranged by a classroom teacher or an advisory (JAG) teacher. Counsellors are also available to students needing support in their personal life. Our counsellors have access to other supports and can refer to many specific community counselling agencies.
All counselling with students is private and confidential.
The Student Services Centre has a variety of information on:
- social and health issues
- university calendars
- career pamphlets
- scholarship and award opportunities
Students planning to proceed to a post-secondary institution should discuss their goals with a school counsellor early in the school year. This connection with guidance is extremely important, as entrance requirements at post-secondary institutions may change each annually. Students need to ensure that their high school program is planned to comply with these entrance requirements. Each student is encouraged in JAG to become familiar with career, work, and post-secondary opportunities, as well as create a career portfolio, resume and cover letters through myBlueprint and a variety of other websites. Students wishing to keep track of their credit requirements can use this document.
